State Recognition for Michigan

Recognized? No

Recognition Status:

Active Task Force? Yes

Year Started: 2013

Task Force Status: Task force organized a Hill Day in April 2015. However, TF efforts are currently stalled as Michigan is in a “holding pattern” while our state government continues to deal with the fallout from the Flint water crisis. We continue to monitor legislation relevant to music therapy and address misrepresentation concerns. We hope to really start building connections following the November election. Finally, Michigan Lt. Governor Brian Calley is very supportive of music therapy. He visited MSU Community Music School this past spring and we hope to connect with him further as a task force.

Below you will find a link to an online report with information about state-level bills that include the keyword “music therapy.” There may or may not be a bill for your state. Some bills may have a direct impact on the profession (e.g. music therapy licensure legislation) while others may not (e.g. music therapy is included in a pre-existing list of healthcare providers).
