Task Force Status: In 2012, legislation to create a music therapy license (HF 2053/SF 1748) was introduced, however did not pass out of committee. January 2013 SF 404/HF 849 were filed for music therapy licensure, was not heard and carried over to the 2014 session and died due to exorbitant fiscal note. Spring 2014 the TF supported bill SF 1722 to expand the definition of a “teacher” to include music therapists; this bill passed.  In May 2015, MT licensure HF 2366/SF 2197 bills were introduced, carried over to the 2016 session, progress was stalled due to a shortened legislative session. In 2018 SF 2607 MT licensure bill was introduced but did not make it through. Fall of 2018 the TF collaborated with EdMN union to prepare licensure bill and issues related to SLP concerns. In 2019, MT Licensure bills HF 546/SF330 were introduced into committees and were not heard. These bill files carried over to the 2020 session however were not heard due to the pandemic. Currently working on identifying and growing our community support.
